Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions. Nobody actually asked me these questions, but if you plan on it, read my responses here.

What's with the weird spellings?

I played the North American version of the game, and Namco intends to keep at least the character names consistent since Philia's name in Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology was Philia Felice. Besides, the Japanese aren't familiar with Western names and terms, and often mispell them or misuse them or use phrases or names that sound awkward to English speaking audiences. While I may not always agree with Namco's localization practices, I intend to at least use what is official.

Why Philia?

Well, I bought Tales of Destiny off of eBay because I wished to experience for myself the Tales that started it all in North America before playing Tales of Vesperia. To be honest Stahn was cuter in the manga; I found him boring. While Rutee has quite a following, I found her to be a generic tsundere bitch. And while I do admit a fondness of Leon like everyone else, Philia just struck me first. I first saw her in Tales of the Abyss' coliseum cameo battle, then in Radiant Mythology, and she just stuck out to me with her personality. Even when finally playing Tales of Destiny, Philia had the most awesome quotes, and combined several personality traits I found endearing. I truly feel that she deserved a tribute, so here it is.

You missed (insert something here).

While I would love to be able to play the PS2 remake or read the rest of the manga, I don't know Japanese and therefore have to rely on either scanlations or fan translations unless official companies take them up for North American localizations.

Why "Sacred Penance"?

In Tales of the Abyss, Philia's Mystic Arte was localized as "Sacred Penance", though in Japanese it was "Sacred Blame". Namco intends to keep this consistent since in Tales of Vesperia, Estelle's Mystic Arte was also localized as "Sacred Penance". And I liked it.
