This episode, much to my surprise, is mostly original material. However, it seems to tie in events of a later manga story (chapter 31, Valentine Crazy Story) and includes a very small portion of Toshiyuki Aoshima's introduction.
Toshiyuki's introduction was rather poorly done, in my opinion. I can only hope that his character is redeemed in later episodes when he and his cousin Sayoko go Belldandy-hunting. However, it is amusing how they tied him into the story. Toshiyuki's appearance was originally in manga chapter 20.
The episode opens up with Megumi telling Belldandy about Valentine's Day. Originally in chapter 31, Urd tells Belldandy about this custom that Earthlings have that involve girls giving their men chocolate, lest they be considered losers. That's about the only tie-in one can think of, since, as I've said before, most of this episode is original material.
However, at the end of this episode, Belldandy notices that the Ultimate Force isn't working. That's the entire point that is supposed to be communicated, which, in retrospect, was done quite well. The Ultimate Force not working is the basic premise that brings Urd into the crazy life of the couple (or maybe it was Urd who causes the craziness...), and bringing it into a not-so-blatant way in this episode really makes me look forward to seeing what else Mr. Gohda has planned.
